Press Releases

1 in 5 Americans do not know where their next meal is coming from – last year it was 1 in 8.  The Little Orchestra Society, along with over 250 orchestras nation wide, is pleased to be participating in Orchestras Feeding America 2010.  Last year, Little Orchestra Society patrons responded generously by donating 350 pounds of food which was distributed through City Harvest.  This spring, boxes will be set up to accept collections at performances of A Musical Toy Store on March 6&7, 2010, at The Kaye Playhouse, Aerialists, Athletes and Arpeggios on April 17, 2010, at Avery Fisher Hall and Music Takes Flight: Airborne Symphonies  on April 26, 2010, at Alice Tully Hall.  A list of most wanted food items can be found on our website.  Help us make this year’s food drive successful again as we help our community.
Thank you.

A note on the new venue: The Little Orchestra Society is happy to co-present our Lolli-Pops™  fall series at the Gerald Lynch Theater at John Jay College. Recently, one building at the college was found to have bed-bugs. However, John Jay College has assured The Little Orchestra Society and our audiences that at no time was the theater ever affected by bed-bugs. There are no changes or disruptions to any scheduled performances of Peter and the Wolf on October 3 and October 4. For more information, please link to the College’s website. We look forward to what promises to be another magical season of music and fun. Thank you.

The Little Orchestra Society and Mister Maestro are proud to offer on VHS and DVD one of the most beloved Lolli-Pops™ concerts… THE ORCHESTRA – A HAPPY FAMILY. This is the perfect introduction to the orchestra and its instruments as well as an ideal reinforcement of your child’s live concert-going experience.

Taped at a live performance with a 21 piece orchestra, THE ORCHESTRA – A HAPPY FAMILY captures the joy of the children in the audience and the excitement of being in the concert hall. Meet each instrument up close as you and your child sing along to your favorite nursery rhymes and hear the entire orchestra play exciting pieces by composers including Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Rossini and Sousa. Your children will be clapping, dancing, and conducting along as they delight in this feast for the eyes and ears time and time again.

“… in an era that has seen a complete abdication in providing music education… I was unprepared for how lovingly rendered these entertainments would be…” - THE NEW YORK TIMES

“The Orchestra A Happy Family is a spectacularly enjoyable journey into the world of instruments. Each of the four characters represent a different section of the orchestra and each of the sections are described in detail and demonstrations are given. This is a wonderful way for kids to learn to love music of all kinds. The whole orchestra comes together to play a combination of classical and fun music that is enjoyable for both the children and the adults watching. The Orchestra A Happy Family is a great way to learn about the orchestra and all its components.” - The Dove Foundation
